There are many wonderful things to see in the swamp all year round, but after the gators the birds are by far the biggest attraction. Among the many species on display in and around the bayous are great egrets, snowy egrets, cattle egrets, tricolored heron, little blue heron, green heron, black-crowned night heron, yellow-crowned night heron, ibis, cormorants, and anhinga. You can also see bald eagles and barred owls in the winter and spring, and of course there are always the ducks, geese, and many different songbirds–there is no shortage of winged things in these parts! Learn more about the birds of Louisiana and where to find them by visiting the Louisiana Department of Wildlife’s bird listing, which can be found here.
