The French Quarter was once called the Vieux Carré, meaning old square. Although most now simply refer to it as the French Quarter, or just the Quarter if you’re a local, there are still those who prefer the old name. Despite the fact that the name means old square, the French Quarter is actually a rectangle. The famous downtown neighborhood is made up of and area measuring 13 blocks by 20 blocks. The entire rectangular section of town is on the national register of historic places and, as such, is architecturally protected with very strict regulations regarding any remodels or even updates to existing structures. We conduct walking tours of the French Quarter by special request. E-mail or call 1-888-223-2093 for more information on exploring this famous historic site.
